Step 1 of 3

Open your card's app or website and tap Account Details or Statements.

Your statement closing date is when your balance is snapshotted — it posts to the bureaus a few days later (the reporting date), but the amount is locked at close.

The mistake that puts you back in the hole: paying early, then spending the card back up before it closes. The snapshot catches the high balance and reports as if you never paid. Guardian reminds you to pay down and hold the line until it closes.

Step 2

Add A Card To Watch

Enter the two details from the walkthrough. Add as many cards as you like — Guardian watches every close date and reminds you in time. You always make your own payments.

No card numbers. No bank logins. Ever.
Give it a name.
Pick your issuer.
Enter a day 1–31.

The day your statement closes — from the walkthrough above. Not the due date.

Enter your limit.

It's almost always in your app (see the walkthrough) — but if you'd rather ask, here's every major issuer's line and where to look.

What to say when you call: "Hi — can you tell me my statement closing date? I mean the day my statement closes each month, not the payment due date." That's it. Write down the day of the month and you're set.
